Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park(平和記念公園)

See the symbolic A-Bomb Dome and more.

Built as a tribute to the 140,000 victims of the atomic bombing, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is located in an open field created by the explosive impact of the bomb. This memorial park consists of various notable monuments with the skeletal ruins of the A-Bomb Dome being the centrepiece. This iconic building is the closest to the hypocentre of the bomb and it is a stark reminder for mankind of the devastating effects of nuclear weapons. See the Children's Peace Monument where a statue based on the true story of Sadako Sasaki can be seen. With outstretched arms and a folded paper crane rising above her, this was a young girl who died from radiation, but had believed that if she folded 1,000 paper cranes, she would be cured. Do not miss the Peace Flame, which is said to have been burning continuously since it was lit in 1964.
