High Line

An inspiration for the transformation of disused infrastructures into public spaces.

Situated high above the streets on Manhattan's West Side, the High Line is a 2.3-km public park constructed in 2009 on a former freight rail line. As it is elevated above ground, it provides aerial views of the city center as well as the Hudson River. One notable lookout would be the Tiffany & Co. Foundation Overlook, which also marks the end of the park. There, you will find a relaxing sundeck and a water feature, as well as public programmes aimed to educate visitors. Furthermore, the Chelsea Market Passage is a great spot for visitors to grab their afternoon snack from food-carts or cafés. Take your time to roam around this uniquely designed park and admire the naturalised plantings on the disused tracks.

Tips Before You Go
There are many special features to explore in the park, so do take your time to have a leisurely stroll through. The 23rd Street Lawn, High Line\'s only lawn that stretches for an entire block and is well-furnished with seating steps, is definitely a worthy stop for a picnic with a view. Many summer programs are also held here, so you can consider planning your visit during the warmer months, but do note that the lawn is only open from Wednesday to Sunday.
