The church shaped like Cinderella’s glass slipper.
Constructed in honour of the local girl who lost both her legs (and her dream wedding) due to the unfortunate blackfoot disease epidemic that rocked Taiwan in the 1950s, the High Heel Church in Chiayi resembles Cinderella’s glass slipper with its glassy blue exterior, that is, if Cinderella was a gigantic titan. At an impressive 17.76-metres in height and 11.91-metres in width, the High Heel Church is a massive architectural creation, and is certified to be the world’s largest high-heeled shoe-shaped structure according to the Guinness World Records.
In relation to its name, the church was built by local government officials not for regular religious services, but for romantic events such as pre-wedding photo shoots and wedding ceremonies. Tailored towards women, the church features several female-oriented designs, including loveseats, biscuits and cakes. Aside from its symbolic significance for women, the church is a lovely, one-of-a-kind attraction that is sure to pique the travellers’ curiosity and imagination when exploring the charming coastal province of Chiayi.
