Towering imposingly over the rest of the breath-taking Lofoten archipelago landscape, Hermannsdalstinden embodies the phrase “rugged beauty”. At 1,029 metres in height, the massive mountain rewards the adventurous and the brave with spectacular views of the endless mountain peaks of Lofoten at its summit, painted against the backdrop of a never-ending horizon.
Hiking enthusiasts can reach the peak of the highest mountain in Lofoten via 2 routes: beginning in Sørvågen or beginning with a ferry ride to Forsfjord. The main route via Sørvågen is longer and totals at 9 kilometres, but has a gentler ascent to the summit. On this route, hikers have the option of staying at an overnight base camp, Munkebu Hut, before continuing with their journey to the summit. The route via Forsfjord is shorter and totals at 5.5 kilometres, but is steeper and more physically demanding at the beginning. The trail via Forsfjord begins on the right side behind the large power station and is demarcated via red painted rocks which indicate the beginning of the trail. Both routes to the summit are estimated to take about 6-9 hours for a round trip.
