Most probably the most beautiful football stadium in the world!
The Henningsvaer Idrettslag Stadium is situated in the small fishing village of Henningsvaer, located on two small islands off the coast of Lofoten in Norway. It is hardly your typical stadium as it has no stands, just a couple of metres of asphalt poured around the field and is used more as a amateur football pitch. Yet, what makes this place truly spectacular is that the location surrounding the stadium makes it simply stunning.
The stadium sits on a rocky islet surrounded by incredible views of dramatic mountains, towering peaks and of the open sea. The football pitch was built by levelling the solid bedrock at the southernmost part of the Hellandsoya Island, resulting in a surrounding rough, rugged landscape. The perimeter of the field serves as a mini crowd stand and as a carpark. The stadium’s capacity may be small, but it is appropriate since the village has only about 500 people. Mostly used by local amateur club Henningsvær IL to train local youths, this stadium, or ‘stadion’ in local dialect, is surely a must-see for football and non-football fans alike.
