Situated within an antiquated wooden ‘Talhaus’ adorned by the coat of arms of Grindelwald, the Heimatmuseum Grindelwald is especially picturesque against the backdrop of the impressive craggy mountainous landscape that encircles Grindelwald. The Heimatmuseum Grindelwald (or the local history museum) provides fascinating insight into the origins of Grindelwald, which started out as an agricultural village to develop into the international, world class tourist resort it is today.

History buffs and culture vultures will enjoy exploring this cosy museum and learning about the history of Grindelwald, as well as unique events such as the great fire that destroyed a large part of Grindelwald, the rise of winter sports, and captivating accounts of summiting the majestic peak of Eiger by mountaineers and professional climbers. Most of the exhibits are labelled in German, but comprehensive English (and German) audio guides that provide the visitor with a wealth of information on the exhibits are available.
