You can’t miss this mammoth of a mosque that stands tall in all its grandeur in Morocco’s largest city.
The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is too beautiful to miss. Built in the mid-1980s and completed in 1993 during the rule of the then King of Morocco, Hassan II, the mosque is a fine example of Andalusian architecture. It is so enormous that approximately 25,000 people can fit into its magnificent interior hall alone, while another 80,000 can be accommodated on the grounds outside. With a minaret that is at a whopping 210 metres, this is one of the world’s largest mosques and is in fact considered the cultural heart of Casablanca. Visitors will no doubt be entranced by the wealth of intricate Arabic calligraphy and symmetrical designs that can be found at every turn over here. Another interesting fact is that it is partially built on the sea to reflect the Quranic verse which states that God’s throne is on the water. Don’t leave Casablanca without visiting this mosque.
