Hans Christian Andersen Statue
A tribute to the popular Hans Christian Andersen.
Located within Central Park in New York City is a bronze statue of Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875), a Danish poet, novelist and author of many famous fairy-tales such as The Ugly Duckling (1844) and The Little Mermaid (1837). This climbing sculpture is one of the most popular in the park. Erected in 1956 in commemoration of the author's 150th birthday, it depicts the author sitting on a bench with a book open. This statue is especially popular for kids, where many have been seen to enjoy clambering around the statue. During the summer months, there would be a storytelling programme held at the foot of the statue, so do bring your kids down early to secure an ideal spot!
