Take refuge from the stresses of everyday life and reconnect with nature at this iconic palace.
Nestled within a canopy of towering trees sits Gyeonghuigung Palace, a tranquil paradise away from the bustling city. As one of the five grand palaces built during the Joseon Dynasty, the traditional palace served as a refuge for the king during times of emergency and is now a historical treasure filled with well-preserved artefacts from back in the day. The palace features unique architecture inspired by its beautiful natural surroundings. The stone-brick walls surrounding the exterior palace grounds slant downwards - a homage to the surrounding mountains.
Leave the city behind as you step through the main gate and cross the Geumcheongyo Bridge. Flanked on both sides by elegantly carved railings, this stone bridge sits across the sparkling Geumcheon stream. It leads to the intricate Heungwamun Gate, which welcomes you at the entrance, and opens up to the sprawling palace grounds. The palace’s elegant buildings are all painted jade green and copper red, and are in such harmony with their environment that they seem to have grown like trees out of the ground. Gyeonghuigung Palace also houses the Seoam Rock. Its unique serpentine shape and the natural fountain Amcheon flowing within, give this rock formation a mystical quality. As such, it is no wonder legend has it that King Gwanghaegun built the palace around this rock. Transporting you back to times of royalty, Gyeonghuigung Palace is truly a tranquil and magical attraction not to be missed!
