Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Indonesia
Gunung Penanjakan

Quite possibly the best viewpoint from which to to absorb the splendour of the Bromo region.

Waking up in the dead of night is a small price to pay for the absolutely breathtaking views that you will soon behold. Take the easy way up on board a jeep, or challenge yourself with a hike-by-moonlight to the top of this mountain. As the sun slowly creeps above the horizon, the darkness is chased away and a scene of unrivalled grandeur unfolds before your very eyes. Every piece of land that the golden light touches instantly transforms into a thing of beauty, gracing your vision with shades of blue, green and grey as far as the eye can see. Early morning mist swirls dramatically over the the entire scene, with three mountains peeking through the cover - Mount Batok at front and centre, the steaming Mount Bromo behind it and in the further distance, Mount Semeru releasing plumes of billowing smoke. The hike back down will allow you to enjoy fields of flowers, little cottages and more alluring scenery. So set your alarms and we guarantee you won’t regret dragging yourself out of your cosy beds.
