Guandu Ancient Town (官渡古镇)

In the blackness of night, the ancient city awakens, dressed to the nines, in colourful illumination.

Evening’s dying flame scorches the darkened blue hues of dusk sky, and as the sun sets into black night, behind the monolithic pagodas, the aged paifeng of regal chromatic arrangement that are characteristic of the Chinese royal courts and masterfully carved into its facade of wood beams atop concrete pillars are the still effervescent designs of traditional Chinese cultural motifs, that has been guarding the entrance to the ancient acropolis for centuries erupts into a brilliant burst of technicolor fluorescent magnificence; a luminous beacon to astound and welcome visitors into its compound of cultural delights, old and new. Dazzled by the lights, it becomes inexplicably natural to wander through the artificially illuminated gate, and very quickly, despite night, the robust vitality of all the Chinese lantern-lined streets within this wakeful city would come rushing in all eagerness to meet entrants with a exuberant atmosphere; the many rows of stores are still attempting to pacify the throngs of shoppers who have yet to shop to their heart’s contents, while the restaurants are making every effort to placate the waiting customers from lending ear to impatience as they form the main bustle of the night while the parents and elders wait in queues, and some children, seemingly without a care in the world, would be engrossed in their railleries. Sitting at a tea house that still receives customers without imposing the hassle of waiting, a reprieve from the crowds is earned and when spent on a thoughtful panoramic visual analysis of the city, there is a sense of wonderment that even after all these many centuries, the city’s purpose remains the same and it vibrancy hasn’t languished in the slightest.
