Named after the affluent Gruuthuse family, Gruuthuse palace is home to the Gruuthusemusuem, a museum that proudly displays all kinds of spectacular 13-19th century art and artefacts from Bruges. The Gruuthuse family amassed their massive fortune around the 15th century, when they had the monopoly of peeled barley and wheat, commonly used in medieval beer brewing.


Today, you can see luxurious tapestries from the as far back as the 16th century, exquisite furniture, stunning sculptures and many other objects from the Gruuthuse collection. You can even find an 18th century Guillotine here! Special mention goes to the terracotta bust belonging to a Holy Roman Emperor from the 16th century, one of the most famous pieces situated here. A spectacular spread is before as you wander around a house made for the wealthy, feeling as if you were from a wealthy family yourself.
