The striking 50-metre steeple and imposing Gothic architecture of the Grote Kerk makes the church impossible to miss. It is a haven for the arts, containing precious artefacts of visual art and music.

With breath-taking architecture and masterful Renaissance paintings, the church is a feast for the eyes. You’ll be blown away by its the sheer beauty, with ornate arched windows, sublime stained glass and a swooping, exquisitely painted arched ceiling housing the some of the finest artworks in the world. At the end of the church is the massive Müller organ. Standing at 30 metres tall and sporting 5,000 pipes, the organ is the most magnificent in Europe, and has been played by Handel and Mozart.

In addition to its patronage of the arts, Grote Kerk also has a colourful history, and still bears the marks of its past. A cannonball embedded into the wall speaks of a time of conflict and turmoil, while the graves underneath the floor, marked by intricately carved tiles, house some of the greatest names in history.
