Also known as The Fine Arts Museum of Bruges, the Groeningemuseum houses Bruges’s best collection of Belgian visual art. Before the construction of the museum, Bruges’s great masterpieces were scattered throughout the city; the Groeningemuseum makes it possible for visitors to enjoy all the marvellous artworks Bruges has to offer in one place.


Best known for its impressive collection of Renaissance Flemish Primitive art, the museum boasts world-renown works such as Jan van Eyck’s The Virgin and Child with Canon Van der Paele and the Moreel Triptych by Hans Memling. However, it also contains notable pieces from other movements such as Neoclassicism, Expressionism and Surrealism.
