Green Lake Park

Green because of the trees.

Looking up from the park bench with tilted head and body relaxed, thickly clouded skies float above head, motionless until motivated into a causal drift by a sudden force of persuasion effected by the very same wind that excites the park’s plush natural verdant abundance into a frenzy of waving. Isolated from the clamour of the city, the encumbrance of an urban lifestyle gradually slips off to the cool air that breathes fresh, and the sight of the lake’s waters gently bobbing amidst the tranquil evergreen of the flora rich surroundings. Rejuvenated, it’s time to walk and appreciate the park, beyond the tamed things of nature, that embodies the finesse and ambitions of the men of Yunnan from the 1600s who decided that a public park should be erected in the center of the city of Kunming. Deliberately, the men who founded Green Lake Park sought to bring high society to the masses, and till today, the very same pagodas built then still tower in timeless resplendence amidst the flourish of nature are pagodas, bearing all the design trappings of decadent, florid traditional Chinese architecture style of an age when emperors still reigned supreme. In the serenity of the park, time who is said to never wait for any man, reveals a more patient side, and marches just a little slower for the beauty of life and a history born of a rare practised social kindness.
