See the magnificent Groß St. Martin which has defined Cologne’s skyline since medieval times.
Rising majestically in the heart of Cologne’s old town district stands the Great St. Martin Church (Groß St. Martin) on the banks of the River Rhine. Constructed on the top of several warehouses since the Roman times, be awed by the three apses and its charming Romanesque façade. Having survived fires and extensive damages during World War II, the Groß St. Martin has undergone some facelifts. Be inspired by its beautifully restored interiors and marvel at the fine workmanship of Rhenish architecture. One should definitely pay the Church a visit for some peace and quiet, or even as a reprieve from the jostling crowds within the tourist areas.
