Grauman’s Chinese Theatre

Visit the most dazzling movie palace of Hollywood’s Golden Era.

Fancy setting your hands (or feet) in the handprints and footprints of celebrities? At Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, you get to do this and more! The theatre is one of the many movie palaces built in the late 1920s, with its grandiose red-and-gold decorations. Designed to be an awe-inspiring interpretation of Chinese art and architecture, the theatre’s pagoda-shaped bronze roof towers at 90 feet, supported by two coral-red columns with wrought iron masks sitting atop them. An impressive dragon snakes its way across the front while two Heaven Dogs guard the entrance.

At the forecourt, you will certainly not miss the concrete blocks bearing signatures, handprints and footprints of popular Hollywood celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Steven Spielberg, Nicholas Cage, and of course, the autograph of the legendary Sid Grauman, who built the theatre. You can even find the “Harry Potter” trio’s wandprints! No matter how resolved you are to avoid the hype, these immortalized prints and autographs of the stars are sure to draw you in. Of course, the interior is just as, if not more, breathtaking. As you look up, the immense stardust medallion decorating the ceiling will fill your view, and you can gaze at the elaborate Chinese murals on the walls. A visit to this beautiful sight is sure to leave you star-struck!
