Grand Palace (พระบรมมหาราชวัง)

Home to the Kings of Thailand.

Arguably the city's most famous landmark, the Grand Palace is an attraction not to be missed while visiting Bangkok. It is the official residence of the Thai King since 1782, when it was first constructed. However, recent Kings have stopped residing there, and the palace has only been used for official events. Besides being an attraction today, the palace is used to host state guests and other foreign dignitaries, as well as for royal ceremonies. Visitors can admire the beautiful palace, with its amazing architecture and the intricate details given to its design. Visitors can also walk the grounds of the Grand Palace, which include the royal residence as well as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew). Within the walls of the palace also sit several government departments, including the Thai War Ministry and the Office of the Royal Institute.
