Götheborg

Gotheborg looks like the place for an exciting pirate adventure!

Contrary to what you were probably expecting, Gotheborg is in fact the name of an 18th century Swedish East Indiaman ship, the replica of which is now moored in Gothenburg harbor, and can be visited by tourists. The original ship sunk near Gothenburg while approaching the harbor on a return trip in the 17th century, although much of its cargo of tea, porcelain, silk and spices was saved. Over the years, much of the wreckage of the vessel was salvaged, gradually giving way to the idea of constructing a replica ship. This was finally achieved in 1995, and today the Gotheborg is a seaworthy vessel that proudly continues to make voyages around the world, from its home base in the Gothenburg harbor. Originally belonging to the Swedish East India Company, the ship’s fascinating history centres around adventure, international trade, entrepreneurship and daring, and will definitely make your head swirl with excitement!

Tips Before You Go
You can only access the ship with a guided tour, so do make sure to book one before you head down. The tour involves a lot of climbing and steep stairs, and you are not allowed to wander off from the group for safety reasons, so do keep young children close.
