Russia’s Central Park of Culture and Recreation.
The Gorky Park in Moscow, otherwise known as the Central Park of Culture and Recreation is one of the largest parks in Russia known for its array of leisure activities and its green sanctuary. Opened in 1928 and named after Maxim Gorky, this leisure park was designed by Konstantin Melnikov, a renowned Soviet avant-garde and constructivist architect. Its name was also mentioned in a popular single, "Wind of Change” by the German hard rock band Scorpions, thus making it a park worth checking out.
Spanning a huge area of 300 acres along the Moskva river, this park was revived and transformed drastically into an eco-friendly recreational zone. Equipped with a 15,000-square-metre ice rink and free wifi, Gorky Park is a great place for entertainment and relaxation. Whether you choose to catch a live concert at the open-air Zelyony Teatr (‘Green Theatre’) showcasing Russian music of various genres; or take part in a free workshop - with a range of classes from Yoga to dance lessons, expect to have a whale of time here! In addition, indulge in the many food kiosks and booths offering a multitude of fusion food as well as traditional Russian cuisine. With different sights to behold all year round, come to Gorky Park to truly immerse yourself in the local culture; and simply watch the locals gather around as they picnic, sing or even enjoy their favourite vodka.
