Goldwell Open Air Museum

A unique open air museum known for its cutting edge sculptures in the middle of a desert!

Located near the deserted town of Rhyolite in Nevada, the Goldwell Open Air Museum is an interesting outdoor sculpture park that is widely popular with artists and tourists alike. The non-profit museum was established in 2000 after the demise of Albert Szukalski, the Belgian artist who created the site's first sculptures in 1984.

One of his most famous works includes the sculpture of The Last Supper, which consists of eerie life-sized figures mimicking Leonardo da Vinci’s painting of The Last Supper. Another fascinating sculpture is the Ghost Rider, a plaster figure on the verge of mounting a bicycle. Do not forget to take a selfie with Lady Desert: The Venus of Nevada, a cinder block sculpture inspired by the concept of the pixel, created by Hugo Heyrman in the 1990s. The sculpture park is free and open to all, so do pop by for a visit and you’ll be awed by what it has in store for you!
