Golden Gate Park Windmills & Tulips

See the icons of Holland in the city of San Francisco.

Standing majestically at the western edge of the Golden Gate Park are two windmills associated with the rich history of San Francisco. An interesting fact is that the sails of the Murphy windmill actually turn clockwise rather than counter-clockwise. These two windmills were once responsible for supplying about 1.5 million gallons of water to the inhabitants of San Francisco on a daily basis. No longer functional today, they are now the darlings of photographers. Come here in spring to see the gorgeous Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden in full bloom.
