Golden Bauhinia Square

An important site for the sovereignty of Hong Kong.

Located outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, the Golden Bauhinia Square is a popular attraction named after the giant statue of a golden Bauhinia blakeana at the center of the square. The flower is the emblem of Hong Kong and holds important significance to the locals as a symbol of reunification, and the six-meter statue was given by the Central Government as a gift to mark the handover in 1997. A popular site for photography, visitors can also come down to the square in the morning to witness an official flag-raising ceremony conducted by the Hong Kong Police Force. The square is also lighted up with a fireworks display on the second day of Chinese New Year and the National Day of China, so be sure not to miss this spectacle if you are there during these periods!
