The park of Thomas Glover.
The Glover Garden is a park in Nagasaki built for Scottish merchant Thomas Glover (1838 – 1911), who greatly contributed to the modernization and industrialization of Japan. Inside the park lies the Former Glover House, the oldest Western-style wooden building in Japan. There are also several other Western-style buildings in the vicinity, namely the Ringer House and Alt House. Visitors can enter the buildings and explore the well-preserved rooms, to see how westerners used to live in Nagasaki back then. The park itself is also lush with beautiful flowers and provides a stunning view over the Nagasaki port. During winter, visitors can come down to enjoy the Christmas illuminations which light up the park beautifully.
