Glasshytta Vikten

Head over to the famed Glass Hut in the remarkable village of Vikten.

Situated in the middle of Lofoten town, amongst the steep mountains and facing the sometimes harsh windy coast, lies the village of Vikten. It is in this very village where the Glasshytta stands, a stunning building dedicated to the art of glassblowing that originated from the tranquil town.

Asvar Tangrand is considered to be the first person to blow glass in Northern Norway, in 1976, in the town of Lofoten itself. Ever since then, Lofoten has been the home of countless glassblowers, and you’ll find them (at work, of course), along with their extravagant pieces at the Glasshytta. It’s hard to imagine lump of matte material being transformed into beautiful, glossy pieces of art - it is like magic and you certainly have to see to believe! You can take your time and stroll through the glasshouse, gazing the beautiful artefacts and appreciating both the interior and exterior designs.

Tips Before You Go
Head to the cafe after you are done touring the glass house and get stunning views of the ocean nearby too. Perhaps consider picking up an original glass piece as the prices are extremely reasonable.
