Are you brave enough to walk on the longest suspension bridge in Europe?
Eeks! That’s what we thought when we first heard about it. The Gjølmunnebrua Bridge is to date the longest a Ferrata (also known as the “Iron Road”) in the whole of Europe. Crossing over a 160-metre deep canyon, the suspension bridge is *clears throat* 120 metres long! We don’t know which is scarier: the canyon you’ll be walking over or the sheer length of the bridge HANGING over the canyon. The good news is that in order to get there, you will be ascending a well-organised track which leads you to the top of Mount Hoven (1,011 metres above the fjord).
The other good news is, there’s no way you’ll fall as you will be attached to a harness and accompanied by a guide at all times (if you book one). Of course, apart from the thrill of crossing the suspension bridge itself, you will have the opportunity to gaze at the steep hillsides, majestic mountains and shimmering glaciers present in Nordfjord, all this while hanging from a steep mountainside! Now this isn’t something you get to do every day!
