Gialiskari Beach

Feel as if you’re standing at the edge of the world at Gialiskari Beach.

At the tip of a peninsula in south-western Crete, Gialiskari Beach is sure to inspire wanderlust in all who visit it. Stand at the very end of Crete and see the immense expanse of water stretch out beyond you, turning from light turquoise at the shallows directly in front of you to a rich midnight blue in the distance, as the waters deepen.

The beach is well-organised with trees, umbrellas and benches for shade, as well as a small shop selling food and drink. It also hosts water sports facilities for the more adventurous, but is wide enough to find a spot of peace and quiet.

Right at the tip of the island, you’re sure to feel like one of the first Greek sailors as your gaze threads the infinite horizon, tracing the line where the sky meets the sea and wondering what might greet you when you cross it.

Tips Before You Go
Gialiskari Beach is nudist friendly, and split unofficially into two halves – skinny dippers in the east, and family-friendly swimmers at its west. The water is rather deep as well, so keep parents should keep an eye on their children.
