Ghirardelli Square

Step into a square of chocolate for a square of chocolate.

If the term Ghirardelli Square makes your mouth water as you imagine a luscious cube of chocolate melt in your mouth, then you can’t be blamed. However, Ghirardelli Square is an actual place on the west side of the Fisherman’s Wharf area in San Francisco. This location was bought by chocolatier Domenico Ghirardelli, who converted it into the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company headquarters in the late 19th century. To all the history buffs out there, you will be delighted to know that there are free guided tours conducted on Monday and Friday mornings, for you to learn more about the historical background of the square. The booking process is simple – all you have to do is appear at the concierge booth located at the core of the square, several minutes before the start of the tour.

In addition, although the headquarters are now located elsewhere, the original Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop still remains to offer you decadence in the form of hot fudge sundaes and chocolate squares. There are of course other shops and eateries for your browsing pleasure, but for you chocolate connoisseurs, what could be better than some delicious, chocolate-y decadence?
