Ghent City Museum

Go back in time to explore Ghent’s history!

The Ghent City Museum, otherwise known as Stadsmuseum Gent or STAM in short, is a museum situated in the city of Ghent in Belgium. Its collection largely showcases the city’s vibrant history from every period in time and it was officially opened in 2010 to enable everyone the opportunity to discover more about this city. The museum has seen an increasing number of visitors especially after winning the 2012 Flemish Museum Prize. However, it is of no wonder that the museum eventually came into possession of this award considering what visitors could be rewarded with upon visiting. A 14th century abbey, a 17th century monastery and an updated 21st century development, all of which form a progressive outlook on the city’s rapid evolution. Most of all, the main attraction of the museum is the sky picture of Ghent, which visitors can actually step onto and a have bird’s eye view, albeit from a digital perspective. In addition, the museum also houses other artefacts like the Tomb of Hugo II and the Charter of Louis the Pious. With an endless stream of temporary exhibitions in its various rooms, you will certainly be in for a treat when visiting the Ghent City Museum.
