Gesu Nuovo Church

Naples’ finest architecture.

Internationally recognized as a one-of-a-kind iconic landmark because of its distinctive ashlar diamond projections on the exterior façade, the Gesu Nuovo Church (or Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo) shines as one of the most stunning architectural works of art in Naples, Italy. The mysterious, esoteric design of the façade intrigues and fascinates all who visit to enter its magnificent Baroque-styled interior, designed by three of Naples’ biggest Baroque artists: Francesco Solimena, Luca Giordano and Cosimo Fanzago.

Inside the church, stunning frescoes depicting the story of Jesus Christ adorn the polychromatic marbled walls, and 11 gorgeous side chapels decorate the extraordinary interior of the Gesu Nuovo Church. At the heart of it all lies the grandiose, exquisitely designed main altar, upon which perches a majestic statue of the Virgin Mary on a globe surrounded by alabaster columns, as well as bronze reliefs and ornately designed symbols of the Eucharist (or Holy Communion). The church is the final resting place of the beloved local saint, Saint Giuseppe Moscati (1880-1927), a doctor who served the city’s poor, and experienced its own miracle in 1943 when a bomb that befell the church failed to explode.
