General Assembly Hall of the Church of Scotland
Meeting place of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
Standing in between the Lawnmarket and The Mound in Edinburgh is the General Assembly Hall of the Church of Scotland, where the highest court of the Church of Scotland meets annually every May. Constructed in 1859 by David Bryce (1803 – 1876), this hall has also been used for many other events, including a play in 1948, where the first “thrust stage” was used in a theatre concert due to the unique setting of the hall. It was also used by the Scottish Parliament from 1999 to 2004, while the new parliament was being constructed. Today, visitors can use the hall for a multitude of events. The beautiful black and white marbled corridor is also a popular spot for photos.
