Geiranger Church

A quaint white octagonal parish church in rural Norway.

Located atop a hill near a fjord, Geiranger Church is a timber church that was constructed in the Lutheran style. True to the minimalist Lutheran style, this uniquely octagonal church is simply adorned with an elegant spire atop its white walls. The church is hemmed in by trees and a well-maintained cemetery, its relatively secluded location affording a serene atmosphere that will calm even the most turbulent of souls. At the same time, the church offers a gorgeous landscape view in all directions – the snow-topped mountains in the distance and the sparkling fjord down below. You might think that the cemetery will be eerie, but the pristine state of the headstones, adorned with fresh flowers, add to the church’s rustic charm. Revel in the tranquillity over here as you stop by inside to make a prayer or two, or to attend a local concert which are occasionally held here. The Geiranger Church is nothing like a loud, ornate church, and it will surely steal your heart.
