Gedung Sate (Sate Building)

Lovers of the mouthwatering Satay stick will equally adore this namesake.

Everyone knows large part of the enjoyment associated with eating Satay is the fact that it comes on a long pointy stick, perfect for dipping into copious amounts of savoury sweet peanut sauce and stabbing the juicy kueh tupat and refreshing cucumber traditionally served alongside it. Gedung means “satay”, and the building is so named because of the long central pinnacle that resembles this Indonesian delicacy.

Once the acting as the Dutch East Indies department of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, it features a neo-classical style that is typical of the Indo-European style of the 1920s. Currently, it is where the Governor of West Java goes about his officework, as the Provincial Government building. The grounds surrounding the building are charming, and there is a splendid view of Mount Tangkuban Perahu in the distance.

The stately white building with a contrastingly dark roof, with a tropical flair of palm trees sprouting in front of it and a fountain spurting a spray of water high into the air has become a heritage landmark that is the perfect place to snap a picture in front of to commemorate your visit to Indonesia.
