If you can afford to only make one stop in Norway, make it this one. The Gaustatoppen, reputed as one of the country’s most beautiful mountains, is located in Rjukan. Towering a whopping 1883m above sea level, the view from the top is truly unbeatable, as you can see approximately one-sixth of Norway from here! Boasting a hike up that is not too strenuous, and a clearly marked trail, this is a great 2 hour hike to make with your young ones.

If however you are not up for the hike, fret not, as there is a cable railway that covers the bulk of the journey, operating only in the summer months (June-October). After working up an appetite, the Gaustatoppen Tourist Cabin is a great place to refuel, munching down on some piping hot waffles while enjoying the view of snow-capped mountains. Be sure to stop and take in the splendid views that surround you as you make your climb or ride up.
