Gamle Bybro

Your stroll along the Nidelva River will be incomplete without a walk on this age-old bridge.

The Gamle Bybro, also known as the Old Town Bridge is located in Trondheim, a city in Central Norway that’s approximately 500 kilometres from the country’s capital, Oslo. Built in 1681 by Johan Caspar von Cicignon (along with the rebuilding of the Trondheim after the great fire that razed the entire city) , the Gamle Byroconnects the historical neighbourhood of Bakklandet to the south end of the main street Kjøpmannsgata.

Originally a guarded area until 1816, the bridge and its gates were rebuilt a couple of decades later in 1861. Adorned and pedestrianised with planks, the bridge is a beauty on its own. Its two intrinsically carved gates give it an artistic look that complements the multi-coloured neighbourhood of Bakklandet. Of course, if you want to get a scenic shot of the Nidelva along with the beautiful riverside warehouses, the Gamle Byro is the perfect place for you to take that shot from.
