Friedhof Fluntern

Great historical figures are laid to rest here.

A slightly macabre air permeates the atmosphere of this attraction. The Friedhof Fluntern, also known as the Fluntern Cemetery rests in Zurich, Switzerland. No ordinary cemetery, this place serves as the final resting place of some truly significant historical figures, including and not limited to the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature Elias Canetti, and two recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize, Paul Karrer and Leopold Ružička. The cemetery is surrounded by greenery, contrasting how life and death coexist in this beautifully eerie spot. Lovers of literature might be interested to learn that writer of the controversial novel “Ulysses” James Joyce is buried here, with a statue of holding a book whilst sitting cross-legged there to accompany him. Pay your respects to some influential characters by visiting the Friedhof Fluntern.
