Fremantle Prison

The only prison that you would actually want to go to.

Now a cultural attraction that lures in many willing visitors, the Freemantle Prison was built in the 1850s and served as a prison until 1991. Located in Perth, this is a great place to learn about the history of the prison, and some fascinating (and perhaps fearsome) stories. The visitor center airs actual videos of prison life and displays items that were used to punish the prisoners.

There are time-bound exhibitions held in the Prison Gallery, essentially featuring artwork by the prisoners. You can even rent the venue for a private event, for a truly unique, if somewhat macabre, experience. Feeling peckish? Stop by the prison-themed Convict Café, and get yourself some Riot Raisin Bread or Felon Fries.
