An iconic landmark of freedom.

The ornately decorated cupola and faded yellow façade of the Freedom Tower stands prominently against the downtown Miami skyline and has led as an exemplary symbol of hope and freedom since the 1960s. Officially designated as a U.S. National Historical Landmark because of its significant role as the main Cuban assistance centre during the tumultuous political regime of Fidel Castro, the Freedom Tower bears great historical and emotional significance in the hearts of many American Latinos currently situated in the United States.


For the thousands of Cuban refugees who fled to the United States to seek political asylum, the Freedom Tower was a significant turning point in their lives, providing nationally sanctioned relief and services to aid their resettlement in the United States. Today, the tower is home to the Cuban American museum as well as a contemporary art museum in association with the Miami Dade College.
