Frederiksberg Gardens

Copenhageners’ favourite outdoor spot.

Established by King Frederik IV (1671 – 1730) as his new summer retreat, the Frederiksberg Gardens is one of the largest green spaces in Copenhagen. Although it is located smack dab in the middle of the busy Frederiksberg district, the romantic gardens give an impression of being far off from the city. Boat tours are now operational in the waters, where the king used to row about and greet his subjects. Visitors will also get to see the Frederiksberg Palace and a Chinese pavilion used as a royal teahouse, amongst other attractions. This English-styled Romantic landscape garden is also filled with winding paths, lakes, waterfalls and grottos. An Elephant Viewpoint also allows visitors to see the elephants from the nearby Copenhagen Zoo, which adds to the natural setting of the gardens!
