Fort De Soto Park

Fun for all at the Fort De Soto Park!

With five islands and part of the boating community of Tierra Verde, this country park is more than just a beach. From campsites to family beaches, the Fort De Soto Park holds endless possibilities. Head to the North Beach for some quality family fun (and shell collecting for the enthusiasts), including splashing about in the wide tidal pool. If you’re keen to uncover the rich history of this place, the Fort De Soto Park’s Historic Fort and Museum await at the heart of the park, where Tampa Bay meets the Gulf. Here, you can find the historic structure. No doubt that the sight of the mortar battery cannons that are aimed over the top of the fort are an intimidating sight, and they point in the direction of Tampa Bay, where invaders once approached.

The truest of history buffs will be tempted to stick around and explore the Quartermaster Museum, while others might wander off the trails around the park. Whether you’re on a stroll with your baby securely in the stroller, or rollerblading past others, the park’s flora and fauna are truly a sight. If sticking around on land isn’t really your thing, rent a kayak and explore the tidal waters around the island, plentiful in mangroves and herons. If you’re itching to sink a hook into the waters, grab your fishing line and don’t hold back as you head to the 1000 feet fishing pier. Don’t miss the ruins by the ocean facing the Gulf of Mexico, from where you can spot the pier.
