The Former French Concession is a shopping district in Shanghai today, but it used to be a leased territory loaned to the French back then, hence its name. Today, it retains all of its charming European characteristics and influences from back in the day, which was around the 1850s. The shopping district stretches out to approximately 8 kilometres, with plenty of trees lining its avenues, giving you the impression that you’re walking down a French street.

It makes for a lovely walk too, with the aroma of coffee and fresh baguettes being baked wafting throughout. There are also many boutiques and galleries for those looking to shop till you drop, but if you’re more of a foodie, well, you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice. There are just so many outdoor bars and restaurants here, and you could easily indulge in a cheeky cocktail or a plate of escargot in between your shopping escapades. With so much to do here, it would seem that you’ll never run out of things to see or do when visiting this formerly French territory.

Tips Before You Go
Just like in Europe, the shopping and food options here are a lot more expensive than what you\'d normally expect from China. Regardless, the European fare served here is distinctly similar to the ones found in their country of origin, so if you\'ve always wanted to experience Europe but are on a tight budget, then why not just come here instead.
