An oasis of quiet in a thriving city.
Located in the urban heart of Swedish city Malmö, Folkets Park is a thriving green oasis that provides natural relief from the heat that the city generates. It is a lush and verdant, with grassy areas and wide trees littered around.
At the entrance of the park you can find a quaint arched gate made from red and white wooden planks, with the name of the park lettered over it. This is the gateway to another world. It is the oldest ‘folk-movement’ park in the world, with a history as a gathering place for workers who wished to go on strike, a huge reason as to why the park is also known as the “People’s Park”. In August 1909, more than 13,000 workers gathered here to protest.
Nowadays, the park enjoys a quieter scene, with a few original attractions built painstakingly by the city council. These include a small reptile centre called Terrarium, which houses 500 square metres of indoor jungle, as well as numerous animals such as giant tortoises and even a small kangaroo. If you’re coming with kids, this is a great place for them to let loose, as the fair in park offers children with thrilling rides to keep them occupied. Of course, if you’re looking to relax and unwind, you can simply roll out your mat, lie down and just bask in the sun while enjoying the park’s tranquil atmosphere!
