The best-known Buddhist centre in Southern Taiwan.
Formerly known as the Buddha Memorial Centre, the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum is the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. Serving as an educational, religious and cultural centre for foreigners and locals alike, this museum is spread across over 100 hectares, and houses eight Chinese pagodas, symbolising the Noble Eightfold Path of the Buddhist faith. Inside, the massive Fo Guang Big Buddha sits at an astonishing 108 metres, dominating the skyline. The museum is also said to house the tooth of Gautama Siddhartha, whose teachings formed the basis of the Buddhist faith. Besides that, several priceless Buddhist artefacts can also be found here, with the art gallery displays many historical and cultural antiques as well. This makes the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum one of the largest repositories of Buddhist art in the world!
