A Two-Century work of art.
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower has the largest brick dome ever constructed and is Florence's main church. It is the third largest church in the world and was the largest in the 1400's when it was just completed. The bell tower together with the huge dome remains one of Florence's most striking features across its cityscape, with the Pantheon in Rome serving as an inspiration for this majestic beauty. It took two centuries for the cathedral to be deemed as finished, with constant additions being made to the main building. The interior is complete with stunning mosaic pavements and frescoes by famed Italian painter, Giorgio Vasari. This is definitely one awe-inspiring piece of architecture you should not miss.
