Flåm Line

A picturesque railway line in Aurland, Norway.

The Flam Line is a 20.2 kilometre long railway line that stretches from Myrdal to Flam within Aurland in Norway. It is a branch of the larger Bergen Line and runs from the valley of Flamsdalen and connects the mainline with Sonefjord. The line is at 863m above sea level and has a total to ten stations and twenty tunnels.


As one of the world’s steepest standard-gauge railway lines, the Flam Line is almost exclusively a tourist transport service and has become the third most tourist visited attraction in Norway. No surprises here, as the train runs through a stunning landscape, including majestic mountains and foaming waterfalls, that is bound to take your breath away and make you want to board the train once more!


The Flam Line’s began in 1924 and it became operational in 1940. From May to September each year, there are about ten departures in each direction daily and for the rest of the year, the number reduces to approximately four. So, what are you waiting for? The FLam Line offers you the peculiar opportunity to gaze at such a beautiful landscape from the comfort of your own seat and it is surely not to be missed!
