Fischerdorf Nusfjord

Visit this gem of a quaint fishing village, with its eye-catching buildings and rich history.

Nusfjord is a fully-preserved fishing village, nestled beneath the impressive Lofoten mountains. It was the busiest in the mid-19th century, all the way until the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to its perfectly situated harbour that also provided shelter for fishermen from winter storms out in the Lofoten Sea. The town has been restored to its former glory, and you will no doubt feel as its inhabitants did as you step onto the land.

The rorbu cabins you see today are painted in red and ochre, a delight to explore when you enter the village. You can enjoy the idyllic and peaceful atmosphere of the town, with buildings from the past such as the old shop and cellar bar, still standing. When your stomach rumbles, make your way to the old stone oven bakery where you can feast on freshly-baked bread and cinnamon buns. Head to the cod liver oil refinery or the sawmill to learn more about the processes, passing by various boathouses on your way. The buildings in this fishing hamlet are all packed tightly together, adding to the homely ambience of the town. The kids can have fun at the activity room made especially for them!
