Amid the picturesque landscape of Brunate stands the majestic Faro Voltiano; a symbol of a mastermind’s contribution to his motherland.
It was the year 1927 when the city of Brunate decided to hold a grand celebration to commemorate the 100th death anniversary of the great physicist Alessandro Volta, who was born and died in Como. Two buildings were erected in his memory; one was the Volta Temple while the other was Faro Voltiano, known in English as Volta Lighthouse. Volta Lighthouse stands at an impressive height of 29 metres just below the summit of Mount Tre Croci. To reach the top of the lighthouse, you will need to ascend a spiral flight of 143 steps that leads to two different balconies. If this sounds like a daunting task, wait until you arrive at your destination. The reward is surely worth the effort because you’ll get a wonderful 360⁰ view of Lake Como and the Western Alps once you reach the top. We hope you don’t skip this one just because of the long arduous climb up the spiral steps. At the end of the day, you will surely feel that it is worth it when you stand on top and gaze at the magnificent natural landscape right before your very eyes.
