Falassarna Beach

Crete’s most popular shoreline that is constantly abuzz with activity.

Pachia Ammos. A beachfront stretching up to 1km such that even at the height of summer with the carparks jammed with vehicles, one never feels crowded out by the hum of human activity. From the vantage point at the edge of the shore, one can see the galloping foam horses rearing high above before coming to a thundering halt at your feet to drench you in spray. The strong gales across the deceptively calm oceans whip up enormous waves that attract windsurfers and water sports enthusiasts from all over.

As you stroll across the shoreline, it would be easy to spot the sun kissed skin of beach goers, bright red beneath the glancing heat. Colorful umbrellas and towels line the bone white sand, ready to be used by sun-tanners but they often spoil the view of a never-ending shoreline. Often regarded as one of the best beaches of Crete, Falassarna does not lack for the fanfare or crowd. Yet it remains immaculately maintained, leaving visitors with a pleasant experience and an endless stream of postcard perfect photographs.

Tips Before You Go
Snorkeling fans rejoice as the pebbly shores to the south of Pachia Ammos are perfect, rocky seabeds with sea stars and other gems buried beneath. Should you tire of the endless beaches (if such a thing is possible), the ruins of the ancient Grecoroman city of Falassarna can be found in the northern end of the beach. That said, do stay by the beach till sunset because the colors of the dusk sky mirrored in the unhindered waters is unforgettable.
