Ewha Womans University (이화여자대학교)

The lack of apostrophe in its name is not a misnomer, but rather based on the belief that every woman is to be respected as individuals.

Ewha Womans University is a private women’s university based in Seodaemun, Seoul, South Korea, and was established in 1886 by the American Methodist Episcopal Church. Today, it remains the world’s largest female educational institution and is perhaps one of the most prestigious colleges in the country. It currently houses nearly 20,000 students, three quarters of which are undergraduates, with the rest being postgraduate candidates. Furthermore, the university has a wide array of international collaborations with over 830 partners in 64 countries worldwide. It houses several colleges including a Liberal Arts and Music one, as well as Graduate Schools for postgraduate endeavours. Some of its famed alumni include Son Myung-soon, former First Lady and wife of South Korean President Kim Young-sam and Chang Hai-won, the first Korean woman scientist in the field of Chemistry.
