An up and coming arts hub.
Hosting roughly 3000 performances annually, the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay has been helping to support Singapore’s reputation as an up and coming arts hub. With performances of dance, drama and music, and art exhibitions, the Esplanade promises to please any culture vulture intersted in the art scene. Of course, the Esplanade itself does not limit you to just awe-inspiring and highly impressive performing arts shows, for its aesthetically-pleasing design is sure to take your breath away. Its 2 peuliar-shaped glass shell domes are finished off with more than 7,000 aluminium sunshades, making this monumental structure resemble a durian - the 'king' of fruits. While this was not on purpose, the design does display the cutting-edge innovation present in Singapore and surely does cement the Esplanade's status as a leading performing arts centre in Singapore.
Already at the foyer of this building, you get a glimpse for the kind of entertainment you will get inside the theatre, as posters of the regular live performance as well as other concerts adorn the walls to welcome you. Do visit the 'library@esplanade;, Singapore's first prubliv library solely devoted to the peforming arts. After enjoying your show, feel free to explore the plethora of bars and restaurants in the vicinity that cater to even the most critical taste buds. Don’t forget to end off your visit at the rooftop, where you can admire the stunning Singapore skyline right before your eyes.
